Values and Ethos Statement
The fundamental value underpinning everything that we do at St Edmund’s Catholic School is that everyone has a right to achieve their full potential, intellectually, socially and spiritually, through good teaching and learning in a safe and harmonious environment. At St Edmund’s Catholic School we foster the positive values of consideration, tolerance and self-respect. We work together to promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline in all students. We encourage staff and students to be pro-active in establishing and maintaining good behaviour patterns and personal relationships in class and around the school.
Since its foundation in 1962, St Edmund’s School is first and foremost a co-educational Catholic school that provides a Christ-centred education where the happiness, achievement and all round development of each child is our prime concern. All our students are admitted on the basis that our discipline has always had the full support of parents/carers. Secondly the fact that the teaching and non-teaching staff at the school subscribe whole-heartedly to the Mission Statement and to the values of the school. The Governing Body make no apology for the fact that they expect extremely high standards and they are determined that these will be maintained.
The pursuit of excellence is at the core of Catholic education; our students therefore are nurtured to achieve their best in every way, in maturing in their faith and in their physical well-being.
Our school is focussed on raising the aspirations and expectations of all our students. We want them to be aware of their immense potential and have the confidence to achieve it as they grow. We all work towards one overarching aim – supporting students in their individual pursuit of excellence.
At St Edmund’s Catholic School we aim to ensure that every individual achieves their potential through the pursuit of academic excellence and the nurturing of their gifts and talents. We are a caring Catholic community allowing everyone to share in the love of Christ through the relationships we make and our service to others.
As a Catholic School great support is offered to our pupils through the work of the Parish Priests of the Deanery who act as Chaplains to the school. Throughout the year, Priests visit the school weekly to participate in the celebration of the Sacramental life of the school and generally assist the pupils in their spiritual growth.
