Prefects System

Prefects 2023/24

St Edmund’s Catholic school has a tradition of promoting students with exemplary academic and behavioural conduct to represent the school as prefects. Their contribution to the smooth running of the school is valued by staff and other students. They are role models for others in St Edmund’s Catholic school and assist staff in the smooth running of the school. They also represent the school in a range of formal and informal situations.

The school will endeavour to assign a prefect to appropriate duties in school. Our prefects are ambassadors for our school and we expect each of them to embrace their assigned duties.

In performing duties as School Prefect, each prefect will be expected to:

  • Support the Catholic ethos of the school and promote Gospel values

  • Complete and be punctual for duties and attend all Prefect meetings

  • Maintain an excellent academic and behaviour record and lead by example, ensuring the pursuit of academic excellence and orderly behaviour

  • Be able to work independently and within a team to complete tasks

  • Prefects must be excellent ambassadors for the school, representing the school image positively

  • Respect the rules and regulations of the school and observe the school rules at all times

  • Be positive and enthusiastic, encouraging and motivating fellow students

  • Display leadership qualities: confidence, initiative, problem-solving skills

Prefects will be required to make an oath and can be removed from post if they fail to fulfil their responsibilities:

  • I promise to serve St Edmund’s Catholic School with integrity, with dignity, with humility and with courage.  I will treat my fellow students with consideration and respect.  I will work for the betterment of this school, its staff, students and traditions.  I will not betray the trust that has been placed in me today.
