KS4

In MFL, we continue to cover the content set by the examination board in year 10 and year 11 that builds on prior learning at KS3. At KS4, students have the opportunity to continue the study of French or Spanish as one of their GCSE options for 5 periods a fortnight. Our objective is to enable students to deepen their knowledge about how language works and enrich their vocabulary in order for them to increase their independent use and understanding of extended language in a wide range of contexts.

The curriculum sequences knowledge and skills, builds on prior learning and enables students to widen their understanding, knowledge and use of a variety of language competencies. It also serves to enrich students’ use of their mother tongue through comparison of the language and culture of another country.

Students will be assessed formatively every week via a vocabulary test and two formal assessments will take place each cycle. These will be a combination of all four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
