Religious Studies

In Religious Studies, we study 8 modules and each module includes 8 topics.  

 

In Module 1 - Catholic Beliefs and Teachings, the following topics will be assessed:

  1. The Trinity
  2. Creation
  3. The Incarnation
  4. The Events in the Paschal Mystery
  5. The Trinity in the Bible
  6. Creation and the Nature of Humanity
  7. The Significance of the Paschal Mystery
  8. Eschatology

 

In Module 2 - Catholic Practices, the following topics may be assessed:

  1. The Sacramental Nature of Reality
  2. Liturgical Worship
  3. The Funeral Rite
  4. Prayer
  5. Forms of Popular Piety
  6. Pilgrimage
  7. Catholic Social Teaching
  8. Catholic Mission and Evangelism

 

In Module 3 - Catholic Sources of Wisdom and Authority, the following topics will be assessed:

  1. The Second Vatican Council
  2. The Four Marks of the Church
  3. Mary as a Model of the Church
  4. Personal and Ethical Decision Making
  5. The Bible
  6. Interpretation of the Bible
  7. The Magisterium
  8. The Church as the Body of Christ

 

In Module 4 - Catholic Forms of Expression and Ways of Life, the following topics may be assessed:

  1. Catholic Church Architecture
  2. Catholic Church Features
  3. Sacred Objects
  4. Artwork in Catholicism
  5. Sculptures and Statues
  6. Symbolism and Imagery in Religious Art
  7. Drama
  8. Music in Worship

 

In Module 5 - Jewish Beliefs and Teachings, the following topics will be assessed:

  1. The Nature and Importance of the Shekhinah
  2. The Nature and Purpose of the Messiah
  3. The Sanctity of Life
  4. Moral Principles and the Mitzvot
  5. The Almighty
  6. The Covenant at Sinai
  7. The Covenant with Abraham
  8. Life After Death

 

In Module 6 - Jewish Practices, the following topics may be assessed:

  1. Public Acts of Worship
  2. The Tenakh and Talmud
  3. Private Prayer
  4. The Shema and Amidah
  5. Ritual and Ceremony
  6. Shabbat
  7. Festivals
  8. Features of the Synagogue

 

In Module 7 - Arguments for the Existence of God, the following topics will be assessed:

  1. Visions
  2. Miracles
  3. The Design Argument
  4. The Cosmological Argument
  5. Revelation
  6. Religious Experience
  7. The Existence of Suffering
  8. Solutions to the Problem of Suffering

 

In Module 8 - Religious Teachings on Relationships and Families in the 21st Century, the following topics may be assessed:

  1. Marriage
  2. Sexual Relationships
  3. The Family
  4. Support for the Family
  5. Family Planning
  6. Divorce, Annulment and Remarriage
  7. Equality of Men and Women in the Family
  8. Gender Prejudice and Discrimination
