Bridging the gap between primary and secondary school and providing a positive transition is something we pride ourselves on at St Edmund’s. One of the things that visitors always find striking about our school is the family atmosphere. Older students support the younger students and, through events such as our annual Harvest Activity Day, younger students help to support Year 6 as they prepare to join our school family.
After National Offer Day on 1 March, students who have gained a place at St Edmund’s will be invited to come to a Welcome Evening with their families, where they can meet each other and our staff. Following the Welcome Evening, our Transition Project Leader will visit every student and their class teacher in their Primary School. Wherever possible, Year 7 student ambassadors and the Head of Year 7 accompany the Transition Project Leader on these visits.
After meeting the students, the Transition Project Leader considers which Tutor Group to put each student into. Students meet their Form Tutor and Tutor Group with their families on Transition evening at the school, before a Transition taster day in July.
Last year, students had lots of questions about homework and finding their way around the school site. Our Welcome Booklet was produced to answer these and other questions. Each student received a copy of the Welcome Booklet on Transition Day.
