Transport between Deal and St Edmund's
St Edmund's is continuing with the provision of transporting students from Deal. A free minibus service will remain in place, initially for our Year 7 and 8 students. If you are a parent of a student of a child in either year 9, 10 or 11 and would like to access this service please contact your House Office.
St Edmund's is in negotiation with the local bus company and other secondary schools in Dover to try and arrange a permanent bus service from Deal. These discussions are ongoing and until these have been finalised we are committed to provide the minibus service departing from St Mary's Primary School at 7.45am and departing St Edmunds school at 2:50pm each day.
The school is situated about 15 minutes walk from Dover Town Centre and the South East Railway Station of Dover Priory. Local bus routes pass the Barton Road entrance to the school, and Catholic children are brought to the school by special contract buses from Deal, Folkestone, Hythe, Shepherdswell and Aylesham.
Pupils may apply directly to the school for a Freedom Bus Pass. At present a charge of £100 per year is made by Stage Coach East Kent Ltd. These passes can be used all the time, not just during school hours, also for weekends and holidays,
Children from Catholic families who qualify for free travel to and from the school must first apply to the Area Education Office and then contact their Priest who is required to support their application for free travel.
Pupils over the age of sixteen are required to pay £320 per year towards the cost of their travel. This policy applies to all students in Kent who travel a distance greater than three miles.
