Former Pupil and staff member Marika picked up the Prentice Trophy for the second year in a row for Lieder at the Gala Concert held by Thanet Music and Drama Festival.

The Thanet Music and Drama Festival was founded as a charity in 1921, and each year offers a platform for hundreds of amateur musicians, actors and dancers in and around the Thanet area to perform in front of an audience and gain expert critical advice.

The festival consists of five sections (Instrumental, Speech & Drama, Piano, Dance, Vocal & Choral) and is held in February to March every year, culminating in an Award Ceremony & Gala Concert featuring some of the best performances from all sections.

  • Year 9 Gurdwara Trip

    Fri 22 Mar 2024

The entire cohort of Year 9s visited the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in Gravesend on Thursday 21st March.They have been studying the world religion of Sikhism in their RE lessons since the New Year. This visit concluded the study of Sikhism by visiting a place of worship known as a Gurdwara (temple or place of worship). This complex is a place of worship and contains a number of external buildings that are used for Panjabi school, a day care centre for the elderly and a fully equipped Sports Hall. The Year 9s were a fantastic year group and excellent ambassadors of St Edmunds today. The Gurdwara staff were chuffed with our students and they are also going to adopt what we asked of our students - to wear their own clothes - and ask all schools to do the same in the future. It was an honour and privilege to organise and attend this extra-circular activity with the staff and students of St Edmund's. Some of our students were understandably nervous but showed real resilience and respect in their attitude and behaviour at the Gurdwara today. One parent immediately contacted the school about the trip and said this about their child's feedback:

"He really enjoyed it, he was telling me all about the temple, the food, the prayers etc he thoroughly enjoyed himself and now wants me to cook him the curry. I never thought he would try it as he said he was anxious about the food situation but he said he loved it. This is great that he tried something new and not just beige."  As the Head of RE I was delighted with all our students engagement and participation in this experiential RE day at the Gurdwara.  Mr Walmsley

  • Year 8 Rugby Tournament

    Fri 22 Mar 2024

Our Y8s travelled to Gravesend’s yesterday to compete in the annual St John’s Rugby 7s ‘Colm Murphy Cup, coming away as runners up in the tournament.

We played 4 games in the group, beating St John’s 5 tries to 2, with Tim and Will scoring a brace each and Lucien getting the other try. Next up we faced St John Fisher, winning 4 tries to 1, with Will scoring another brace and Tim and Brooklyn getting a try each. In our third game we come up against Ursuline in a South East Kent Derby, coming away with a 4 tries to 0 win. This was arguably our best game as a team, with immense defence shown throughout. Will once again score a brace, with Tim and Lucien scoring the other tries. Tim made one of the best try saving tackles I’ve ever witnessed in this game and had all the crowd congratulating himself afterwards!

Lastly, we come up against St Columbia. Sadly we went against our game play and play into St Columbias game, coming away with a 4-1 loss. But Tim coming away with another solo effort.

This meant we would play St Columbia in the final. The boys listened to the prematch instructions and tackled St Columbia’s big runners, showing a massive improvement on the previous game. We ended up losing the game 3-0, but showed much more spirt and a will to win, with everyone commenting on how brave the boys were.

Big shoutout goes to Miss Marsh, who was our driver/first aider/assistant coach who allowed the boys to travel and compete!!

  • British Science Week - Role Play - Year 9 Psalms of Suspicion...Who done it!!

    Fri 15 Mar 2024

Yesterday, for BSW all of year 9's were off timetable to solve the horrendous murder of Mrs Parsons that had occurred at St Edmund's last night. They were tasked to analyse and scrutinise the crime scene and all evidence that was collected. They performed fingerprint and shoeprint analysis, chromatography of the suspects pens, performed multiple tests on an unknown powder that was left at the scene and used microscopes to determine who's hair was left at the scene. Once they had collected all the evidence and examined the witness statements, they had to determine who had committed the heinous act.

A very big well done to our year 9's and all the hard work in solving the crime!

Today art students only had 4 minutes to draw different parts of a face and then had to collate the images to form a face.

In RE year 8 and 9 have been looking at the philosophy of time and students have made detailed posters on time in their workbooks.

In science, Year 7 created a timeline for the development of a chicken and eggsplored the different parts of an egg.

Year 8's carried on with building their very own rockets and parachutes.
