Vocational courses

Vocational courses give students the chance to:

  • carry out more research of their own
  • find out about an area of work which interests them
  • take part in work experience, work shadowing or visits
  • take fewer exams and produce more assignments
  • build their confidence and social skills.

GCSE Leisure and Tourism (Double Award)

This is a two year course which students may choose as an option when they make their GCSE choice in Year 9.
It is equivalent to two GCSE passes.
Three units are studied over the two years. They are:

  • Unit 1 Investigating Leisure and Tourism
  • Unit 2 Marketing Leisure and Tourism
  • Unit 3 Customer Services in Leisure and Tourism

Unit 1 is assessed by a one and a half hour examination and Units 2 and 3 are assessed by portfolio.

GCE in Travel and Tourism

This is a two year course for the six unit single award (equivalent to one ‘A’ Level).
Students take the following units over the two years.

AS

  • Unit 1: Inside Travel and Tourism (exam)
  • Unit 2: Travel and Tourism - A People Industry (portfolio)
  • Unit 3: Travel Destinations (portfolio)

A2

  • Unit 8: Travel and Tourism Project (portfolio)
  • Unit 9: Travel and Tourism - People and Quality (exam)
  • Unit 10:Current Issues in Travel and Tourism (portfolio)

This qualification can contribute to Higher Education entry or to employment in the Travel and Tourism sector.

 BTEC First Diploma in Travel and Tourism

This is a one year course which is totally project based.  If you achieve a Pass it is equal to 4 grade C GCSE's and a Merit is equal to 4 grade B GCSE's and a Distinction is equal to 4 grade A GCSE's.  The 6 units are:

  • The UK Travel and Tourism Industry
  • Exploring Customer Services in Travel and Tourism
  • UK Travel and Tourism Destinations
  • Exploring Marketing in Travel and Tourism
  • Developing Employability Skills for Travel and Tourism
  • Planning Visits for Travel and Tourism
