Drama

All students in Year 7 have one lesson of Drama per week. Students in Year 8 and 9 have 3 modules of six weeks. Modules include; role-play, key techniques, investigating Shakespeare, and collaborating on scripts. Students are given the opportunity to explore texts and issues as well as developing their performance skills.

Key Stage 4 - GCSE Drama

This course consists of one practical module and one written paper.

The practical element has two parts; a devised performance based on a theme, and a scripted performance. These performances have to be supported by a written analysis of 500 words each.

For the written paper, students are required to read and investigate a set play and discuss live productions they have seen.

Key Stage 5 - A-Level Drama and Theatre Studies

The A-Level consists of six modules; three are taken at AS level and three at A2.

Module 1: Devised Group Project
In groups, the students devise an original piece of performance work based on inspiration from the course. This is supported by a 2000 word portfolio charting their process.

Module 2: Approaches to Text
Students are required to study two texts; one classical, one contemporary, and discuss their practical ideas.

Module 3: Practitioners and Live Productions
Students explore the theories and practices of a theatre practitioner. The exam will ask them to discuss the practitioner’s work and relate to their own work.

Module 4: Play in Production
Students need to present an extract from a published play striving for professional standards.

Module 5: Approaches to Text
Students study a further two texts and are required to discuss the in relation to their own experiences.

Module 6: Practitioners and Unseen Extract
Students study a practitioner and discuss how their work been influenced by some of the theories they have encountered. They need to discuss the practical elements of a previously unseen extract.
